Published: Granite Bay Gazette Vol. 19, Issue 2. Friday, Oct. 23, 2015.

Category: Photojournalism

Reason for publication: For the second issue of the Gazette in the 2015-16 year, we decided to run a story about campus Islamophobia on A1. I was inspired by the work of artist Lalla Essaydi which I had viewed recently at the San Diego Museum of Art. Her photography captures images of Arab women covered and surrounded with Arabic script. A student wearing her Hijab agreed to let the Gazette draw words typically associated with Islamophobia on her face. I shot the photo, my fellow co-editor-in-chief did the illustration and ta-da!
