Reason for publication: For Recipe of the Month, a student needed a photo of macarons. I used a photo that I had taken. It appeared in black and white in print, but I also included the original colored image.

Reason for publication: During the first day of the biennial Every 15 Minutes program, I volunteered to run the Granite Bay Today twitter account. I posted updates of “deceased” students and uploaded photos. Below are photos I took which were posted to the GBToday twitter account (accessible here).

Reason for publication: For a Recipe of the Month for an issue of the Gazette, I chose to bake a lemon cake with a glaze and icing. The actual recipe was too long to even fit on the page, thus the glaze and icing recipe remain unknown. Nonetheless, I was happy to showcase my baked goods. They printed in black and white, but above is the colored image.

Reason for publication: One of my fellow colleagues on the Gazette needed a few holiday food photos to add to a page she was designing for a story about Holiday treats. My photos are: top left (powdered chocolate bundt cake), bottom left (challah), middle right (pumpkin pie) and bottom right (apple pie with cinnamon stars).

Reason for publication: For the second issue of the Gazette in the 2015-16 year, we decided to run a story about campus Islamophobia on A1. I was inspired by the work of artist Lalla Essaydi which I had viewed recently at the San Diego Museum of Art. Her photography captures images of Arab women covered and surrounded with Arabic script. A student wearing her Hijab agreed to let the Gazette draw words typically associated with Islamophobia on her face. I shot the photo, my fellow co-editor-in-chief did the illustration and ta-da!

Reason for Publication: Aside from writing, baking and cooking is one of my greatest passions. I post many photos of my food products on my personal social media sites. After I made these candied oranges for the first time, my parents decided to surprise me when, after they submitted it for the Sacramento Bee’s Sunday reader’s food photo section, it was published.
